While I will continue to write in this blog occasionally, I am back to writing my other blog on a regular basis. Some of you came here after hearing about my husband, so I do not know you very well yet. I would like to invite you to visit my regular blog With An Angel On My Shoulder. On that blog I write about a variety of topics... my dog, my house, movies, books, and more! I started that blog in attempt to find some good in my life. Now more than ever, I need to find those good things.
Again I would like to thank everyone who has been extending their thoughts and prayers and support towards us the last several months. Words can not express how much this means to me to know so many people care, and the fact that most of you do not even know us, wow, it really restores my faith in humankind.

Thank You Card
I feel that it is important to properly thank people so that they know that their generosity is appreciated. Besides, it's been fun to make the cards. I think it will become a permanent hobby for me.

Brother
My brother has been in town the last week or so. He was able to help me get some things done around here, make a few phone calls for me, and drive me to the hospital or wherever I needed to go to give me a break from driving. He took care of the pup so I could have a sleepover with Bear and get this, he even got me a laptop so I can take it to the hospital and hopefully I can use it there to show Bear photos, email from family and friends, and even show him this blog which up til now he has only heard of but not seen.
My brother probably feels a little under appreciated so here I am announcing on Bloggyville and to all to all of you Internets that I really do appreciate my brother!
Thank you for everything and most of all, thank you for taking the time from your own schedule to be here for me. The only thing I refuse to thank you for is the lovely cold! *cough* *cough*

Sleep Over!
Since my brother is in town and could take care of the pup, I decided to spend the night at the palliative care unit with my bear!
Even though he dozed alot throughout the evening, it was still nice to be in the same room as him all night and not be worrying about the time or as the case may be, the nasty weather outside the window.
The staff provided me with a cot and we mostly just watched tv all night and talked and dozed a bit. It was nice. I miss that.
While watching tv with him, it was difficult to see him tear up every time a Christmas commercial came on. He cried that he might not have another Christmas and if he does, it will not be a very good one. I feel so bad when he said that and I don't know how to comfort him. I tell him that we don't know how much time he has, he could have months. And we will do whatever we can to make this a holiday to remember.
But the truth is I worry about it too.
Today, I noticed how swollen Bear's right leg has become. His feet have been swelling a while now but his leg suddenly got bigger than the other one. We mentioned it to the doctor when he came on his rounds this morning and he was scheduling an ultrasound for Bear's leg to look for any blood clots that may be there. I had to leave so I will find out more about that tomorrow. I'm really glad that this doctor is taking the "better safe than sorry" route and keeping Bear as comfortable as possible.
The doctor tells us today that he feels that Bear's health is on a plateau. While Bear may be still feeling a bit miserable and uncomfortable, medically speaking he has not gotten any worse in over a week now. This is encouraging news. It does NOT mean that Bear is not severely sick, he is. He WILL get worse, it is just a matter of when, and the longer he is on a plateau, the better.

I would like to thank M&M for their generosity. Words can not express how much your help means to us and I hope someday we can return the favor or pay it forward. Thank you. You are wonderful people, and I'm so grateful to know you. I know our daughters are playing together in Heaven and that makes me happy. From the bottom of my heart.... Thank You.

The Hearts of Strangers
I started this blog as a means to reach out to people, particularly my family who are sometimes hard to communicate with. I wanted to have an outlet to talk about the cancer and a place to record everything, so that if need be, I can look back on it. A place where, perhaps, I could feel less alone in my situation.
When my daughter died, I became very aware of the notion "strangers become friends and friends become strangers". It has given me more faith in humanity and the people around me. While I still have some anxiety and apprehension when it comes to sharing information about myself, I have learned that sometimes it's worth the risk to allow people in your life even if you don't know them yet. After all, everyone you know was a stranger at one point.
So, when Heather from Mom4Life contacted me and asked me if she could have my address, I decided why not? I really thought she was going to send a get-well or thinking-of-you card and then she posted this blog entry about my husband and myself. Yes, she went above and beyond.
Yesterday, the package arrived in the mail. It was the gas cards that Heather mentions in her blog post. It was more than I expected and I can honestly say I am so grateful for such wonderful people in my life both physically and virtually. Thank you very much, Heather, and thank you to all the bloggers who contributed to the cause. I will never forget you and your generosity. I can only hope that someday I will be able to pay it forward.
I am truly touched.

Potato Soup For The Soul
Bear has developed a bit of a "crackle" in his chest. It may mostly be just phlegm but due to lack of strength he is unable to cough it up. Because of this, they are watching him carefully now in case he develops pneumonia. That, of course, would not be a good thing to happen.
He got to sit in his chair again today, and today he managed to sit in it comfortably for almost 1.5 hrs which was nice. We mostly just walked the hallway back and forth and went into the lounge a couple times to look out the windows there.
If he feels up to it, we can take him to the main floor of the hospital to the cafeteria or around. I don't know if taking him outside is a good idea or not, since, while it has been nice for this time of year, it might not be nice enough for him. But perhaps it will be an option.
Last night, a friend dropped off some precooked meals for me. I can't express how much it means to me to have people caring so much. Thank you, so much! By the way, the potato soup was amazing. I had 3 bowls for lunch! I couldn't stop myself!
I wish I could get over my sluggishness in the mornings. I am not getting anything done even when I do wake up at a decent time. I am forgetful and all I seem to manage to do is sit like a lump on a log until I finally convince myself I should get dressed and head over to the hospital. I generally stay there for several hours and then it is dark by the time I get home. Dark earlier now with the time change.
It is only 9:30 pm and I've already dozed a bit on the couch with the pup and I'm feeling like I haven't slept in ages. I also dozed at the hospital too! Luckily, I did not fall asleep in the car, like I often nearly do.
When I left the hospital, there was a little memorial service going on in the elevator lobby. I felt like I was intruding as I stood there waiting for the elevator. However, it made me happy and sad at the same time that they do these services for the patients who lived on that ward for a part of their lives.
I hope I won't have to attend one for my husband for a long time from now.
